Race: Santa Cruz 5K & CrossFit Training!

I cannot believe it has been about a month since my last entry! However, I can say that my time off was well worth the extra dedication to training and focusing on my OCR team.

During that time period we completely revamped our school gym with various donations from DonorsChoose.org, and now you cannot even recognize the room. We also started to visit our local crossfit gyms (Crossfit San Benito & Cold Storage Crossfit, both located in Hollister, CA), where we received personal classes and training guided towards our race training. In addition to all of that, we even managed to create several personalized racer workouts that focus on different sections of the body (ie. legs, abs, arms, etc.).

Once again, it was all well worth it, because after taking about a month off from racing, my team and I managed to take both a first and third place in our age brackets of females 1-19 and males 30-39 at the Santa Cruz 5K, which was part of the Santa Cruz Half Marathon event located at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Although I was not feeling a hundred percent, I still managed to get a decent time of 23:52, but I much rather have PRed.

Although I did not get my ideal time, I did enjoy the ocean view and finish on the beach, something I have always enjoyed about the races located near the boardwalk.

I would totally recommend this race for racers in the future.

Now as I have mentioned before, 2019 is going to jam-packed with races, and March is a big part of said races, with four more races still coming (more Spartans, another RUGGED MANIAC, and my very first full-marathon!). The OCR team and I, are going to continue training for the many, many more upcoming events for this year (i.e. additional Spartans, Terrain Racing events, more 5K’s, and much, much more)! We will be doing more weight room sessions, more cardio & running, and we will even be hitting up the local crossfit gyms some more for additional personalized training!

Until the next entry, remember to never give up and push yourselves each and every day!
